NAS Avon Branch Meeting & AGM November 2019
Andrew Powell and Marie Wastlund were invited to our Branch Meeting on 12th November 2019 to talk about Diverse, which has evolved from the Bristol Asperger Social Group, which Andrew has been overseeing for many years. Diverse will cover the whole of the Bristol, BaNES, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area supporting groups for, and run by, autistic adults.
Unfortunately Andrew was not able to attend as he was giving training to social workers – which we will all agree is very important!
However, we were pleased to welcome Marie who told us about Diverse and the groups they currently organise and other groups which they plan to start soon. Details below.
Marie also said:
“We have been awarded some National Lottery funding, so you can now start up your own groups, with support.
If you wish to start a group e.g. photography or walking or friendship or gaming and have some like-minded people we can support you in setting this up.
You will receive training in being a volunteer which will be FREE and we will give you information about what makes a good volunteer and how to organise and manage groups.”
Diverse has a steering group of autistic adults which plans and oversees the groups.
Below are the details of the groups which Marie told us about.
Their website is being put together and should be available soon. In the meantime, you can access information on Diverse on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bristolaspergersocialgroup/about/
